Sales tax on BorrowHive rentals
This article explains BorrowHive product behavior. It is not legal or tax advice.
During the free-first launch, owners may set rental prices and deposit amounts for future paid support, but BorrowHive applies the Free First promotion or waiver where paid collection is not enabled. The renter's amount due is $0, and BorrowHive does not collect renter charges, platform fees, owner proceeds, refundable deposits, or sales tax for those default Free First requests.
BorrowHive may calculate, collect, and pay sales tax when a future paid Plus rental is in a location where BorrowHive is responsible for that tax. In those locations, tax is added above the owner listing price. It does not reduce the owner list price or replace BorrowHive service fees.
Tax behavior depends on the pickup or delivery location, the item type, the rental length, local rules, and BorrowHive's current paid-support coverage. App-store availability, device location, and a member's profile location do not decide whether a paid rental is tax-supported.
BorrowHive's future paid Plus rollout will start with reviewed locations. Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon are early candidates for ordinary launch-scope rentals where BorrowHive does not expect to collect sales tax. Colorado paid checkout may cover reviewed pickup areas such as Highlands Ranch / unincorporated Douglas County. Alaska and Colorado cities that run their own tax programs need extra review before paid support is turned on. Free First may remain available at $0 where product and trust policy allow it.
Owners cannot opt out when BorrowHive is responsible for collecting tax. Outside supported BorrowHive-collected locations, owner self-collection is allowed only where BorrowHive has approved that approach for the specific location.
BorrowHive keeps records needed for paid rentals, taxes, refunds, and support. Free First requests may keep basic location and promotion records, but they do not create a sales-tax collection record because no tax is collected.
