Supported tax and checkout locations

This article explains BorrowHive product behavior. It is not legal or tax advice.

BorrowHive does not use App Store or Google Play state targeting as the tax boundary. The app may be available in the United States while paid checkout is still limited by the listing's verified pickup or delivery location.

During the free-first launch, owners may set rental prices and deposit amounts for future paid support throughout the United States where BorrowHive allows listings. Where paid collection is not enabled, BorrowHive applies the Free First promotion or waiver so the request is $0 and BorrowHive does not collect payments, deposits, sales tax, or owner payouts. Verified-person review may still be required before members can send, approve, or fulfill borrowing requests.

BorrowHive is preparing paid Plus support in stages. Paid locations are handled in these groups:

BorrowHive uses the verified pickup or delivery location to decide whether a booking can use paid Plus checkout or must remain Free First. Paid checkout also depends on the item, member status, owner payout setup, and BorrowHive review for that location. If BorrowHive cannot safely support a paid booking yet, the booking stays Free First or paid checkout stays off. Free First is not a workaround for off-platform paid rentals.

When BorrowHive is responsible for collecting tax, owners cannot opt out of that collection. If BorrowHive collects tax on a paid rental, the tax is separate from the owner payout, BorrowHive fees, refundable deposit holds, and damage reimbursements.
